Seems that infra-red communication between different brands of hp is not possible. Tried it bewteen a Samsung and a Sony Ericcson, but failed as the phones could not communicate. Anyway to resolve it?

For sony ericsson and samsung communication prob, the culprit is the samsung infrared, not the sony ericsson, certain brands infrafred needs software support in order to transfer images,ringtones etc
For sony ericsson, the good part is the infrared does not need any software support to transfer data, anyone can use the infrared to send or receive from a laptop,PDA or another phone.
But phones like Nokia (series 40), samsung etc etc needs u to install the pc suite or communication suite in order to utilise the infrared between the phone and the pc/laptop's infrared
But for symbian/PPC phones, software is not required to utilise the infrared, therefore any SE, Symbian (nokia/SE), and PPC (xda) can send and receive data via infrared to and fro each other

nokia to nokia IR for me never had any prob. 5210 9210 6510 8310 6610 in most combinations (as the 6510 and 8310 ain't my phones) works flawlessly.

i mean industry standard for IR comms between phone to phone = use nokia.

try beaming images or ringtones from ur 9210 to 6610 directly, it will never work
*** with 5210,6510,8310, it's not even colour, nothing can be done with IR except for modem dial up or contact sending, of coz beaming contacts is not a prob, the thing is infrared connectivity now is much on images or ringtones transfer
my series 40 nokia all acts that way 6100,6610,7210, not to mention those which is not colour screen
my symbian 7650,3650 and p800 on the other hand does accept any sh1t beamed to it

contact sending sam-SE oso sumtimes doesnt work (depending on models)

anyway....clr screen waste of $...not to mention sucky batt life...

And by the way infrared between Samsung (for current models) and SE will NEVER work because as i mentoned, samsung infrared needs SOFTWARE support, but when the samsung Palm OS phone, PPC phone or symbian phone comes out, it will be another story, coz by then the infrared is like SE's, no need software support to fully utilise it
