View Full Version : [help] my CD-RW drive spoil already?
my CD-RW drive...
can only recognize up to 702MB CD-R
even i put in 800MB disc, it said is 702MB
and when i wan to burn disk..
if i burn 702MB, 701MB..
always cannot burn... must fail... now i already spoil about 20 CD-R already...
699MB also cannot... 698MB also cannot...
around 693,692MB only can
why?
the drive spoil already?
Izzit the type of CDR u using...try chge the disc n see if it works...
If all fail...RMA the cdrw.....
i think u spoilt the drive by overburning it..meaning overburn the cd all the time..causes the laser lens to fail...
not to be confused with overworking the drive ...
my pal killed his 32*12*40 lite on by overburn every CD-R to ard 750MB
but my drive cannot support 'overburn'
so i cannot do that....

overburn???
donno ahhh. I think my cheap CYCBERDRIVE cannot do it
alexando : you use same model as mine one
can do simulation
see it can burn 698MB of data?
yes, if overburn features is not supported then we cannot burn more then 700mb.
if the cd cannot burn at 698mb also, then at this mb you need to use disk at one burning method instead of track at once.
see if it works. else we need to figure out other solutions :)
your drive only support up to 700MB. cd-r more than 700 is not standard and no drive can detect more than 700. u have to use over burn, and if the manufacturer lie about the exact size, your cd cannot be read later.
to burn more than 699M (less than 703M), choose finalise session or disc at once.

One suggestion - you may want to try using the same CD-burner on another PC (your friend's?). I had problems with my seldom used old Sony CDX-160E on one PC, no matter which burning software I used. Set the same CD-burner up on another PC and everything worked smoothly. Can't understand why but it solved the issue.
At least that way, you can find out if it is the CD-burner problem or maybe the OS problem.
Have you install the latest Nero CDRW software?
What brand is your CDRW?
better use DAO mode - TAO got extra overhead a bit. Also leave 1-2 MB free for the index/file system overhead. IMO, Imation disks are good for 703mb use. Verbatim oni 701 or so if im not mistaken
