need some help, i need to setup office network for my friend and thinking of make it wireless instead of wired. the office is comprise of :

-2 storey office,
-end to end wall is about 50meter, lots of partition
-pc is about 10 unit and notebook is 5 unit,. user is growing
-use for email, internet, lotus notes and transfering normal office files.

the question is:
-how mana access point to use?
-what brand for best value/ money?
-is usb wifi good?
-do i need a heavy server like dell server or hp server, or just any clone pc server?
-currently they use wired networking but only for account dept, what consideration should i take for existing networking?

any enterprenuer out there know how to do this?....kena la bagi komisen cikit...hehehe

One AP enough lah, unless... all 15 machines are BT-freaks. THAT is another problem/story. :D Usually one = less hassle, unless the signal really that lousy. Buy AP wic can mix with another unit without funny repeater stuff (if join with 1 wire is OK lah)

Aztech 11G (108Mbits max) card = 110 thunder match
Any 11B card (11M max, 10% of wired speed) ~ 75+ new, 50-60 used.

Buy PCMCIA with 2 LED (power and ACT) instead of one.
One LED cards: SMC
Two LED: 3com, Aztech

USB wifi + 1.5m extension cable = means u can position the thing high enough , free frm clutter = better signal vs PCI-based card.
Around 130-140 new, maybe cheaper off lelong auctions

Server? Depends on disk access load n stuff lidat.
Normally a P4 or AMD aXP 2.6G or better is sufficient, dont overclock, get a cool video card...means a TNT2 or MX400 (something old and not so hot), u wouldnt want the stability to be compromised..tambah a couple WD 250GB with the cooler master rounded cable, can tahan quite high performance. If the disk is accessed 24/7 non stop, better buy SCSI.

Dell or not, depends on whether u need a cute rack mount unit or any tower PC also can.

Use good casing and PSU (Enlight etc) coz u dont want airflow to be impeded/inadequate power. Enlight/ACbel is good enough, try to get 350W or more. Avoid cheap MEC stuff for PSU

AVOID 1U server casing, use 2U or 4U. 1U uses 4cm fans, very noisy, and only can use 1 PCI card. COmpact but not very expandable. Cable also terhimpit wan...with 1U casing

the wired part, save cost la, integrate the LAN into the main server.
Each server can taroh 1-4 LAN cards all cabled to the same swiitch to improve performance.
